July Boot, Craft and Produce Fair

PREPARATIONS for the Fair were made on the Friday before when the pitch areas were marked with white lines.
The weather is however a fickle friend of our Rotary Boot, Craft & Produce Fairs this summer. The forecast for the Sunday morning indicated rain, and the outlook appeared not to be good.
The Rotary gazebo, the tables for the Rotary stall, signs and other items were delivered to the Martello Fields and the gates opened for the early bird stall holders to be able to be guided their allocated pitches and to set up their stalls. The items for sale on the Rotary stall were set out.
The weather was overcast but dry. Some stall holders suggested however that the weather forecast would deter some potential stall holders. Nevertheless, about 50 stall holders took a gamble on the weather and set up their wares for sale.
As the public arrived, reports came in that the weather west of Newhaven was very wet with another Boot Fair at Peacehaven abandoned due to the inclement weather. There were also reports of heavy rain in Eastbourne and rain further north towards Lewes.
Although there were the occasional spots of rain, the heavy rain held off and avoided the Martello Fields. As the morning progressed, the sun broke through the clouds and the weather improved.
The public started to disperse at about noon, and stall holders started to pack up after a successful and dry morning.
The Rotarians manning the Rotary stall followed suite and the Rotary gazebo was taken down. The last stall holder left and the gate to the field locked.
Another successful Boot, Craft & Produce Fair which raised nearly £650 including £100 from the Rotary club stall that can be used to support Rotary charities.
