Seaford Community Cinema matinee performance 'Lady in a Van'Seaford Community Cinema is located in the Barn Theatre on Saxon Lane, Seaford, and is a volunteer run, not-for-profit organisation that relies on a team of volunteers and on-going support to bring the best of world, art house, contemporary and selected recent film releases to Seaford. When the cinema was set up in 2011, being part of and for the community was a core aim of the organisation.
A significant proportion of the local demographic is made up of people over 65 with many living in sheltered accommodation and care homes. The Seaford Community Cinema states on their web site (http://www.seafordcinema.org/about-us) that they are very proud to work in partnership with Seaford Rotary Club who purchase a number of tickets for every matinee to distribute free to the older members of the community . .
Thus on 23rd April, with tickets provided by Seaford Rotary, 30 elderly residents of Seaford residential homes were able to attend a matinee performance on of the film Lady in the Van starring Maggie Smith. This was the fourth matinee that Seaford Rotary Club have provided support in the last 12 months to enable our elderly residents to go to the cinema.
There was a camaraderie and buzz as they were all going out together as a group on the bus, and anticipation of the fellowship they would have when they were back in the lounges of the homes discussing the film.
CTLA provided transport to enable a number of wheelchair bound guests to attend. It was a real team effort.
There was an expectant buzz as the audience arrived and took up their seats. There was appreciation felt by the elderly residents that the Cinema was putting on a matinee to enable them to see the film going out in the evening is really not an option for most of them.
The audience were welcomed to the performance by Hilary Miflin, Seaford Community Cinema Committee Membership Secretary, and when Rotary were thanked for their support by providing the tickets, there was a loud cheer from the group of 30 elderly Seaford residents.
